Self Propelled Adventures
Steady climb out of Salida to 10,000 feet was slow. Clouds cleared after I summited for a spendid ride through this dry plateau of treeless hills. Hartsel Cafe was a welcome end to a long day, as it was for Kit Carson, Doc Holiday and Wyatt Earp as documented in a photo on the wall from 1870.

So is the area technically a desert? Bet the burger tasted great!

Buffalo.very nice lean burger. This area is known as South Park. A grassland basin rimmed with 13-14,000 ft peaks. Many folks here are independent and off grid. Lots of lonely homesteads in all states of assembly, maintenance or decay.
