Hokkaido Arrival

Chitose Airport Onsen

An incredible start to our cycling trip from Hokkaido to Kyushu. After a visit to the hot spring in the airport, we assembled our bikes and were on our way along a rail trail to Lake Shikotsu. Autumn is on the same timeline here as it is at home. The trail feels at times like peddling alongside the Humber if Grizzlys roamed the banks. Bear warnings keep us alert. Foxes and deer run across our path. Houses are smaller as are the cars. We had a good day of acclimatizing to time and riding on the left. Tomorrow we head to Sapporo.

  1. Wow – what an adventure. Appreciate going along “for the ride” without leaving my chair! We are moving house so it is indeed a really nice diversion from packing boxes. You also show the world as a positive place to explore in these peculiar times. 🙂
