An incredible day on the water observing Gray whales. This place was very different in the not so distant past. Whalers would come here to harvest whales easily. In those years and for decades later these whales, known as Devilfish, were aggressive and dangerous. Now, a few decades later they have learned that boats are not out to get them. They now in turn seem peaceful and curious about our presence. They often lift their head out of the water seemingly to check us out. Super incredible experience. They are in this laguna to birth and rear their young, then, as summer arrives, they move on up the coast to feed in nutrient rich northern waters.
