This trip did not end at Bombay Beach. I continued north into San Bernadino where Mel and Tim and their animals took me in. With help from Tim to get me in and Mel to get me out, my ride continued from Barstow to Las Vegas. Done.

  • Mexicali

    Mexicali

I did not do Mexicali justice with late arrival and early departure. I hope to be back here next year at this time for a road trip! The airport was awesome for bike assembly with plenty of indoor space. The cycling exit then into the city was uncomplicated and safe.

  • Cabo San Lucas

    Cabo San Lucas

For many reasons Cabo was the wrong choice for me. Regardless, I was able to get a number of things done; work on school assignments, get a bike box, and generally get packed for the trip north. A major mistake was realising the day before, at online check-in,  that the airport was in a different…

  • El Pescadaro

    El Pescadaro

After a brilliant break in LaPaz, I was keen on getting to Cabo. I was already determined to return here for a visit next year. Surf Camp in El Pescadero was wonderful for camping with great facilities. I was hoping for a beach view but that was far away and involved losing a fair amount…

  • Isla Espiritu Santo

    Isla Espiritu Santo

Incredible day that included a dive through the Fang Ming Wreck located on the west coast of Espíritu Santo Island, in front of El Corralito. A former Chinese cargo ship trying to transport undocumented citizens to California, it became disabled and adrift until it was intercepted by the Mexican Navy, who donated it to create…

    La Paz

First day of headwinds caught me by surprise. Those long gentle uphills became just a bit more painful. Day ending with a long descent slowed by headwinds, saved brakes and forced me to spend more time looking around. Super beautiful landscapes with changing vegetation. Cacti now standing tall between shrubs and grasses. Sea of Cortez,…

  • San Hilario

    San Hilario

A relaxing day of riding with the wind with plenty of spots to stop for a snack or beverage. Camping at the Rancho did not work out as planned but I was able to set up camp a few km later in San Hilario. I have set myself up for a pleasant ride into La…

  • Ciudad Constitucion

    Ciudad Constitucion

A short riding day today to; find a hotel with wifi for my scheduled online UWO class, have a rest from a full day of cycling, get laundry done, and, see my classmates.

  • Ciudad Insurgentes

    Ciudad Insurgentes

Cycled a bit further than expected today due to limited services. The ride out of San Juanico was a misty one with the sound of breakers ever present to my right. Rolling hills took me to Hwy 53, a very straight but hilly ride to Ciudad Insurgentes. With pavement and light tail winds the distance…

  • San Juanico

    San Juanico

After a hearty breakfast of Mexican eggs and a bike loaded with 6l of water I was off on a direct route on the salt flats instead of on the sandy and rocky shore road. Losing my way a few times had me deep in sand or deep in salty wet mud. I readjusted, walking…
